Tender slow-cooked turkey served over our signature jollof rice, simmered in a rich tomato and scotch bonnet base with warm West African spices. A crowd favorite and the bowl that started it all.
A West African classic. Slow-braised goat in a deeply spiced pepper sauce, served over jollof rice. Rich, complex, and boldly seasoned with a satisfying heat.
Aromatic and deeply warming. Our pepper soup broth poured over jollof rice with tender protein, fragrant with uziza, ehuru, and uda spices. Boldly spiced and soul-restoring.
Crispy fried gizzards tossed in a tangy, spiced pepper sauce, served over our signature jollof rice. A Dallas original that keeps people coming back.
“She never measured anything. She seasoned by feel, tasted twice, adjusted once. Whatever came out of that kitchen was perfect every single time. These aren’t my recipes. I just learned them well enough to keep them alive.”
I grew up watching my mother cook the way some people pray – with complete certainty, total presence, nothing written down. Pepper Soup on cold nights. Jollof Rice on every occasion worth celebrating. Fried plantain she called “just a snack” that we ate like it was its own course. I stood beside her for years and never once thought to write anything down. I assumed she would always be there.
I had already made Dallas home when I lost her. The grief changed something – the city felt different, the dream felt more urgent. The recipes I carry now are the ones I rebuilt from memory, from smell, from taste, from the particular shade of red that tells you the stew is ready. People here had been asking for years when I was going to open a restaurant. The answer was always almost. Then it became necessary. MyJollofBowl is not a tribute. It’s a continuation. Every bowl that leaves this kitchen is her still feeding people. She just does it through my hands now.
